‘Essence of Wisdom’ with Gerardo Abboud

During our summer retreat, Tsoknyi Rinpoche offered wonderful teachings based on this extraordinary text by Mipham Rinpoche. Each day, Gerardo clarified our understanding through his insightful Q&A sessions. Gerardo has kindly offered to teach four sessions, allowing us to revisit and continue our contemplation of these teachings.

The text contains pith instructions on the practice of khregs chod. Gerardo will take it as the basis to clarify key points and support a deeper understanding of Dzogchen as the most direct path to realising the nature of mind and, through familiarisation with it, transforming our present samsaric experience into the display of primordial wisdom.

Who Can Join?

This group is open to the following people:

  • – Those who attended Rinpoche’s retreat on ‘The Essence of Wisdom’ either in-person or online, or
  • – Those who have received the pointing out instructions directly from Tsoknyi Rinpoche during any in-person retreat or from another Dzogchen teacher.

When and Where?

  • Start Date: 7th February, 4pm (GMT in the UK); 9am (MST in the US)
  • Duration: 1.5 hours per session
  • Frequency: Four meetings (7 Feb, 21 Feb, 7 Mar, 21 Mar)
  • Online

Cost

This study group is offered freely; however, there will be an opportunity to make donations to Gerardo.

What to Expect?

In each session, Gerardo will guide us through the verses of Mipham’s text, allowing participants to study the text in greater detail. Gerardo will draw upon Rinpoche’s teachings to assist our understanding of the profound meaning of this text. The sessions will be online and interactive. There will be the chance to ask questions and to engage in conversations about the text and teachings.

Recordings

The sessions will be recorded in case participants can’t make each session; however, we ask people to commit to all four study dates. Recordings will be available for two months.

About Gerardo Abboud

Gerardo has been the English translator at Tsoknyi RInpoche’s retreats in the UK for over twenty years. He translated for Rinpoche during his recent teachings on Mipham Rinpoche’s ‘The Essence of Wisdom’ as well as offering his own considerable knowledge at daily Q&A sessions. Gerardo is well known for the clarity and deep understanding he brings in sharing the Dharma with others.

Gerardo was born in 1945 and graduated as Engineer at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. In 1970, he travelled to India and Nepal and stayed there until 1985, studying and practising Tibetan Buddhism. He has been translating from Tibetan to English and Spanish for many lamas, specifically serving as main translator to Drubwang Tsoknyi Rinpoche from 2000 to 2015, and to His Holiness the Dalai Lama from 1992 during his visits to Latin America. He is the head and resident teacher of the Dongyuling Center in Argentina, established in 1986, alternating this with his teaching tours in Mexico and USA.
